Garage Door Safety

Intro:

The garage door is the largest moving part in almost every home. VMT Doors wants to make sure that you and your family know how to operate and maintain the garage door system safely.

Damaged or Malfunctioning Door?

If your garage door is damaged, hesitant, or malfunctioning DO NOT continue to press the button to force it into position. This can cause the door to become off track risking further damage to personal property and the door itself.

Never Attempt to repair a garage door’s springs or cables. These are under EXTREME tension and can cause severe injury. Leave it to a Pro!

  • Almost 60% of garage door injuries are caused by the sections/joints of your garage door pinching fingers. (NEISS)

Keep fingers and hands away from automatic garage doors. Every area on a garage door is a potential pinch point.

Always make sure the sensors are free and clear of objects that could impede the garage door from closing. Avoid storing tools, toys or other garage objects near the track and safety sensors.

Children and garage doors

Children should never be allowed to play with the garage door or its operating system. Children should never stand, run, or play under or near the garage door, especially when it is moving. Adults should never allow children access to the remote controls for a garage door operating system. It is important to educate children about the dangers of garage doors.

Always Keep a Visual

When opening and closing your garage door, always keep the door in full view until the door is fully opened or full closed. This step helps avoid accidents and will reveal any issues to the person operating the door.

Key Points

  • Always use caution while operating your garage door

  • Protect yourself and children from garage door accidents

  • Educate yourself on proper operating techniques.

  • Let a trained technician work on your door!
